PDRI-DevLab and IOM Launch the Innovative Data Compendium 2025 at the World Bank Annual Meetings

October 2025

Data is a catalyst for progress. At the 2025 World Bank Annual Meetings in Washington, D.C., Professor Erik Wibbels, Founder and Co-Director of PDRI-DevLab@Penn, joined Amy Pope, the Director General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to launch Unlocking Progress Through Data – The Innovative Data Compendium 2025.

This first-of-its-kind initiative — reflecting Penn’s broader mission to apply knowledge for global impact — showcases what’s possible when we put data to work for people. Drawing on IOM’s Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) and PDRI-DevLab’s analytical expertise, the Compendium highlights how innovative, timely data is transforming lives. It showcases examples from climate analytics helping communities prepare for extreme weather, to migration data guiding smarter investments, and digital tools connecting vulnerable populations to essential services.

The launch was part of IOM’s high-level event, “Harnessing Data and AI: Transformative Solutions for Displacement and Migration,” held during the World Bank Annual Meetings. The session brought together senior leaders from governments, multilateral institutions, and the private sector to discuss how AI and innovation are changing migration management and climate resilience. Professor Wibbels presented the Compendium as a model of partnership between research and operations, showing how evidence can drive real-world impact. The event emphasized the power of collaboration to bridge data, innovation, and policy — turning insights into action that improves lives worldwide.
