PDRI-DevLab Fall 2023 Workshop Series: Apurva Bamezai

PDRI-DevLab is hosting a Fall 2023 Workshop Series featuring its staff and affiliates.

Topic: Public Sector Employment as a Pathway to Electoral Politics: Evidence from India

Presenter: Apurva Bamezai

Session Details: The purpose of this preliminary research is to look at the political entry of those in government positions came from observing specific street-level bureaucrats recruited in 2010-11 from historically marginalized subcastes in rural Bihar – one of the poorest states in India. This research relies on secondary datasets to see whether there is any relationship between public employment and political entry. The preliminary results are encouraging. Going forward the author is looking to build on these fundings by incorporating a primary quantitative and qualitative data element.

We request that participants read the concept note prior to the workshop.
