Upcoming Conference: Opposition and Democratic Futures in Turkey and Beyond (May 8th)
We are pleased to invite you to attend an upcoming one-day conference organized by the Department of Political Science, PDRI-DevLab, Penn Global, the Middle East Center, and the Andrea Mitchell Center for the Study of Democracy.
Opposition and Democratic Futures in Turkey and BeyondFriday, May 8, 2026 (Hybrid)The Forum, Perelman Center for Political Science and Economics (2nd Floor), 133 S. 36th St., Philadelphia
This conference brings together scholars and practitioners working on democratic opposition, civil society, media, legal contestation, and coalition-building in Turkey and in comparative perspective. While democratic erosion continues to intensify across many countries, the conference shifts attention from democratic backsliding to the conditions under which democratic resistance, resilience, and renewal become possible.
The program will run from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with breakfast beginning at 8:30 AM and lunch provided for in-person attendees. A poster with the program is attached for your reference.
