PDRI-DevLab Co-Director Guy Grossman Featured on Penn Arts & Sciences Horizons Podcast

March 2026

Guy Grossman, Co-Director of PDRI-DevLab and David M. Knott Professor of Global Politics and International Relations, is featured in the first episode of Horizons, a new podcast series from Penn Arts & Sciences hosted by Dean Mark Trodden.

In the conversation, Grossman discusses how global collaboration, field-based research, and interdisciplinary approaches are essential to addressing many of the defining challenges of our time—from forced displacement and migration to governance and human trafficking.

A central theme of the episode is that many of today’s most pressing issues are inherently global. Challenges such as climate change, migration, public health, and financial systems transcend national borders, requiring research that combines diverse perspectives, local knowledge, and international partnerships.

The conversation also highlights the mission behind PDRI-DevLab: connecting rigorous academic research with policymakers, humanitarian organizations, and local partners to design and test policies and programs that reduce hardship for vulnerable populations.

Grossman also reflects on the importance of grounding research in local context and field-based engagement, noting that meaningful insights often emerge from combining data-driven analysis with close collaboration with communities and institutions in the places being studied.

Horizons is a new podcast series from Penn Arts & Sciences that features conversations between Dean Mark Trodden and faculty members about the major ideas and research shaping today’s world.
