Forced Displacement Working Group Meeting #2

Date: May 17, 2024
Location: Penn Washington, Washington, D.C.
Co-hosted by: PDRI-DevLab, Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA), International Rescue Committee (IRC)

The second FDWG meeting explored how displacement-related research can inform anticipatory systems, community resilience, and inclusive programming in fragile contexts. With over 50 participants, the meeting featured:

  • Presentations on early warning systems for mobility linked to drought in the Sahel and violence in the Horn of Africa

  • Research on the impact of displacement on host-community tensions, and strategies to rebuild trust and shared institutions

  • Discussions on mainstreaming protection, gender equity, and local agency in evidence frameworks

  • Implementation challenges in collecting data across displacement-affected areas during crises

A cross-sector panel with donors, think tanks, and implementing partners surfaced lessons on timely data use, ethical fieldwork, and the need for institutional coordination across the humanitarian-development-peace nexus.
