HIV testing is a crucial first step to accessing HIV prevention and treatment services and to achieving the UNAIDS target of 95% of people living with HIV being aware of their status by 2030.
In this narrative review, Dr. Thirumurthy and colleagues from UCSF, RTI International, and Impact Research and Development Organization in Kenya review various approaches to increasing HIV testing coverage in sub-Saharan Africa.
They also discuss demand generation strategies and novel testing approaches to reach undiagnosed people living with HIV and to promote frequent retesting among key and priority populations.
