Community Governance of Micro-Hydro in Nepal

Funded by Duke Energy Initiative, Devlab@Duke, along with colleagues at the Nicholas School of Environment and Sanford School of Public Policy, has worked on evaluating rural electricity provision through micro-hydro projects (MHPs) in Nepal. DevLab and its partners have designed survey instruments and experiments to understand (1) the effects of government interventions to commercialize micro-hydro grids, and (2) given the variations in success of community management of MHPs, the underlying characteristics of communities that were successful (and less successful) in maintaining them.
